St Giles Hospice is opening a brand new charity shop in Brownhills – and needs local people to volunteer to support the running of the store.
Located on the High Street, the shop is the 15th in the successful St Giles group, which has been fundraising in towns throughout the hospice’s catchment area for more than 20 years.
Lynwen Truesdale, Director of St Giles Hospice Shops, says: “Volunteers will play an integral role in the Brownhills shop, from sorting incoming stock, to pricing and displaying items, as well as working on the till.
“As full training and support will be given, the opportunity to volunteer is open to people from all walks of life and age groups, and we offer flexible shifts to suit those who may already have a job or other commitments during the week.
“Being part of a dedicated team is a highly rewarding experience – not only do volunteers meet new people and make friends, they also have the chance to learn new skills while helping us to fund St Giles’ care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses.”
The Brownhills shop will sell a wide range of products including items for the home, clothes, books, CDs, videos and DVDs.
Potential volunteers need not have had any previous retail experience or involvement with St Giles. To find out more call 01543 481042.
St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering high-quality medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers.
Patients come from across the hospice’s catchment area, which ranges from Ashby de la Zouch and Atherstone in the east, to Cannock and Walsall in the west – and from Burton and Uttoxeter in the north, to Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill in the south.
Care is offered at the hospice's facilities in Sutton Coldfield and Whittington between Lichfield and Tamworth, or in patients' own homes across the region.
St Giles spends over £5.5 million every year providing its specialist services and with less than a third of this funded by the Government, relies heavily on donations and fundraising.
