St Giles Hospice Seeks New Trustees

A patient being cared for in the Day HospiceLocal people are being given another opportunity to play a vital role in the future of St Giles Hospice.

The highly regarded charity, which cares for those living with cancer and other serious illnesses, is seeking to appoint two further members to its board of trustees.

The trustees – who act on a voluntary basis – are responsible for the strategic direction of the hospice and oversee its services and fundraising. The day-to-day operation of the hospice is delegated to the Chief Executive and Management Team.

On this occasion, trustees are being sought either with marketing and public relations expertise, or with a knowledge of construction.

The hospice management is encouraging anyone who feels they can be of service to apply, even if they currently have no connection with the hospice.

St Giles Hospice Chairman of Trustees, Peter Durrant explains: “We’re keen to encourage people from all areas and walks of life to become trustees, in recognition that St Giles belongs very much to the community it serves.

“With the opening of our new Sutton facility and plans for the expansion of the In-Patient Unit, we have lots of interesting challenges and opportunities ahead.

“This is an ideal opportunity for someone with public relations, marketing or building experience to give something back to the local community.

“Whilst hospice trustees don’t receive remuneration, our current expansion plans and future challenges present a rewarding opportunity to share your experience to the benefit of St Giles’ patients, families and carers.”

No previous experience is necessary, as trustees are given support and guidance to help them perform their duties.

Anyone interested should call 01543 434537 for an application pack or to arrange an informal discussion with Hospice Chief Executive, Peter Holliday.

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering high-quality medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers.

Patients come from across the hospice’s catchment area, which ranges from Ashby de la Zouch and Atherstone in the east, to Cannock and Walsall in the west – and from Burton and Uttoxeter in the north, to Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill in the south.

Care is offered at the hospice's facilities in Sutton Coldfield and Whittington between Lichfield and Tamworth, or in patients' own homes across the region.

St Giles spends over £5million every year providing its specialist services. With just a third of this funded by the Government, the registered charity relies heavily on donations and fundraising.
