St Giles Hospice, which cares for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, is taking part in a world musical extravaganza by holding a ‘Voices for Hospices’ concert in Sutton Coldfield.
The event is part of a ‘Mexican Wave’ of concerts taking place during the month around the globe, co-ordinated by UK registered charity Voices for Hospices.
Involving up to a million people and with over 500 individual events each year, the concerts raise awareness for each hospice and encourage new local supporters to get involved.
Organisers from the Friends of St Giles Hospice in Sutton Coldfield are hoping for a bumper turn-out at the concert, which takes place from 7.30pm on Saturday 13th October at Bishop Walsh School in the town, which has kindly donated the use of its hall.
The audience will be treated to the melodic sounds of the Sutton Coldfield Community Choir, which is participating in the event for the first time.
St Giles Hospice, which has facilities in Sutton Coldfield and at Whittington, between Lichfield and Tamworth, has been part of Voices for Hospices since the concerts began in the late 1980s.
Peter Holliday, Chief Executive of St Giles, comments: “These world-wide concerts highlight the extent of the hospice movement in the 21st century and demonstrate the importance of the care that we provide.
“Voices for Hospices is a reminder to local people that we need their support now and in future, and we hope to see a great many people coming along to enjoy the concert.”
Tickets are priced at £5 each and all proceeds go towards supporting the hospice’s care.

St Giles Hospice is one of the best-known and most respected charities in the region, offering high-quality nursing and medical care for people with cancer and other serious illness, as well as providing support for their families and carers.
Care is offered at the hospice's facilities, in patients' own homes and across the region.
St Giles spends over £5million every year providing its specialist services. With just a third of this funded by the Government, the registered charity relies heavily on donations and fundraising.
