St Giles Doctors Awarded Prestigious Fellowships

St Giles Hospice Medical Director Diana WebbSt Giles Hospice Medical Director Diana Webb, and Doctors Liz Waddy and Jackie Wakeman have each been awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

Fellowship – the highest level of membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners – is awarded to doctors deemed by the College to demonstrate its standards, values and commitment to high quality general practice.

The team of doctors offers invaluable support to the hospice, which cares for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses. They also carry out home visits on behalf of St Giles, hold outpatient clinics at the hospice in Whittington and work alongside NHS staff at many of the region's major hospitals.

Dr Diana Webb, from Barton - under - Needwood, qualified in 1984 and has worked at the hospice since 1994. “It is very satisfying giving something back to the local community and working with patients and families during what is a very difficult time.”

Doctors Liz Waddy and Jackie Wakeman have been working part-time for St Giles for 8 months and 9 years respectively.

Peter Holliday, St Giles Hospice Chief Executive, comments: “We are all very proud of Diana, Liz and Jackie’s achievement.

“Receiving these awards emphasises the level of expertise and care that the doctors offer patients at the hospice.”

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering high-quality medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers.

Patients come from across the hospice’s catchment area, which ranges from Ashby de la Zouch and Atherstone in the east, to Cannock and Walsall in the west – and from Burton and Uttoxeter in the north, to Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill in the south.

Care is offered at the hospice's facilities in Whittington near Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield, or in patients' own homes across the region.

St Giles spends over £5million every year providing its specialist services. With just a third of this funded by the Government, the registered charity relies heavily on donations and fundraising.
