It’s birthday time for Burton’s St Giles Hospice shop, which celebrates its fifteenth year of loyal service to local shoppers this month.
Fashions have changed since the shop at 192 Station Street opened, but with new bargains arriving all the time it’s continuing to prove extremely popular with customers.
A special birthday party is being held on Monday 12th November to celebrate the anniversary, attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of East Staffordshire, Councillor Cedric Insley CBE and Mrs Fay Insley, and shop staff and volunteers.
Lynwen Truesdale, General Manager of St Giles Hospice Shops, said: “Our Burton upon Trent shop is a real winner with shoppers in and around the town, and that’s largely down to the wonderful, high-quality donations which people bring in for us to sell.
“Each shop in our patient catchment area plays a vital role in raising funds to care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses.
“Last year our 14 shops generated £525,000 and, with demands on St Giles’ caring services continuing to increase, every penny is greatly appreciated and desperately needed.”
The Burton upon Trent shop sells a wide range of high-quality second-hand items including products for the home, clothes, accessories and books, as well as a selection of new goods, including greeting cards throughout the year, and the hospice’s seasonal range of Christmas cards.
Donations of items that can be sold are always welcome, and further information is available by contacting the shop on 01283 516218.
St Giles Hospice Shops play a vital role in funding the care offered by the hospice, a registered charity based in Whittington, between Lichfield and Tamworth.
The fourteen charity shops are located in major towns throughout the hospice's patient catchment area, which ranges from Ashby de la Zouch and Atherstone in the east, to Cannock and Walsall in the west – and from Burton and Uttoxeter in the north, to Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill in the south.
In addition, a clothing warehouse for donations and a furniture warehouse offering a wide range of high-quality furniture at value-for-money prices, are based in Shenstone, near Lichfield. A selection of furniture is also available at the Cannock and Wylde Green shops, and a bridal room can be found at the Swadlincote store.
St Giles Hospice spends over £5million caring for local people with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers, and relies heavily on the support of local people to enable its valuable work to continue.
