The Schools & Colleges Co-ordinator fulfils an important role promoting St Giles Hospice’s work throughout the charity’s patient catchment area.
The primary objective of the service is to facilitate greater outreach into the community by forging links with educational establishments.
Through raising the profile of the charity, and providing a wider understanding of St Giles’ work caring for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, many of the myths surrounding both hospices and cancer are dispelled.
The service includes visits to primary and secondary schools as well as colleges to offer curriculum support in a range of subjects - including citizenship, religious education, general studies and health and social care - in addition to general advice and guidance for both pupils and teaching staff.
