St Giles Senior Management

St Giles Hospice's senior management team is made up of three Directors who are responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the hospice and its caring services, under the overall leadership of the Group Chief Executive.

  • Peter Holliday, Group Chief Executive
    • Peter Holliday, Group Chief Executive

      St Giles Hospice Group Chief Executive Peter Holliday joined the charity in 2000.

      Peter is responsible for the strategic management of the whole hospice, leading a management team which comprises the Nursing Director, Medical Director and Business Support Director.

      He maintains an active role within the wider community and is currently Chairman of Help the Hospice's UK Advisory Council, as well as Deputy Chairman of Trustees of Help the Hospices. He is also Chief Executive of The Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge.

      Peter, a Chartered Accountant and Anglican Priest, is Chancellor's Vicar of Lichfield Cathedral and was Vicar of Stratford-upon-Avon immediately prior to his appointment to St Giles. He is a school governor and a trustee of several charities.

  • Emma Hodges, Business Support Director
    • Emma Hodges, Business Support Director

      Emma Hodges joined St Giles Hospice in December 2009 as Business Support Director and promoted to Deputy Chief Executive in September 2011.

      She is responsible for the leadership and management of all non-clinical aspects of the hospice (with the exception of income generation). Emma contributes to strategy development, policy formation and management of matters relating to human resources, finance, education and research, external relationships and contract management, health and safety, facilities management, IT and legal matters.

      She was appointed as the hospice's Company Secretary in May 2010 and she is also a member of the Hospice Governance Committee.

      The holder of a Degree in Business Administration and a masters Degree in Regeneration, Emma joined the hospice from University Hospital North Staffordshire, where she was Assistant Director of Human Resources. She has also worked in the private sector and undertaken consultancy assignments for a social enterprise in the Housing Sector.

    • Dr Pamela Choudhury, Medical Director

      Dr Pamela Choudhury joined St Giles Hospice in 1999 as Consultant in Palliative Medicine, and became Medical Director in June 2010.

      Dr Choudhury now oversees the hospice's entire medical establishment and ensures that appropriate consultant input is given to the Acute Trusts in St Giles' catchment area.

      She initially trained in general medicine and oncology before undertaking a period in AIDS/HIV palliative care. She was appointed to the West Midlands Specialist Registrar training scheme in 1996 – becoming one of the first Specialist Registrar's to be trained in the region – and joined St Giles Hospice after completing the qualification.

  • Sarah Riches, Nursing Director

      Sarah Riches joined St Giles Hospice in September 2005 as Nursing Director.

      Sarah is responsible for all the hospice's clinical services (with the exception of the medical team), leading and supporting the provision of high-quality care.

      She has over 20 years' experience in the field of palliative and end-of-life care, after graduating from the University of Surrey in 1988 with a degree in Nursing Studies. Sarah went on to gain a Post Graduate Diploma in Palliative Nursing in 1995 and completed a Masters Degree in Hospice Leadership in 2010.
