Fred's Appeal
Fred’s Appeal is our new campaign to raise money to fund the vital 24-hour care we provide for our patients at the Compassus Centre.
It aims to encourage more local people to become regular donors to meet the costs of running the state-of-the-art in-patient care facility in Whittington, between Lichfield and Tamworth.
The appeal is named in honour of Fred Woodley, who has been a dedicated St Giles supporter since his wife, and mother of their three children, Kaye, was cared for by the hospice in the final weeks of her life.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Kaye was cared for at the Compassus Centre, and this enabled her to fulfil her wish to return home to host her annual Halloween Party one last time before spending her final days surrounded by loved ones.
“If it wasn’t for St Giles, I don’t know what would have happened,” says Fred. “It gave us a chance to spend some real quality time together as a family – and for me to spend time with my wife. We really cherished this because, before St Giles, we thought we’d lost her.
“Most of us will be looking for St Giles’ help at some stage in our lives, whether it’s for a friend, relative or ourselves. The fact that it’s a local charity means you can see the immediate effects of your money – and St Giles always responds with the same gratitude to donations, be it £1 or £1,000.”
