We offer a range of opportunities to enhance learning about death, dying, palliative care and bereavement.

Clinical Student Placements

Pre-registration nursing students at Staffordshire University, University of Wolverhampton, Birmingham City University, University of Derby and Keele University can join us for course-specific clinical placements. These are arranged through the University.

We offer medical placements for undergraduate medical students from the Medical School at the University of Birmingham as part of their curriculum. These placements are arranged via the Medical School. There are various learning opportunities provided at St Giles. Students are encouraged to be involved in multi-disciplinary team meetings, ward rounds, community visits and to attend in-house multi-disciplinary teaching sessions.

Supervisors and assessors support students to achieve their learning objectives. Students are made aware of the importance of consent, privacy, dignity, compassion and confidentiality within the organisation and the delivery of individualised patient centred care.

Professional Placements

We welcome requests from registered healthcare professionals who would like an opportunity to better understand hospice care and discover what palliative care entails. The knowledge and understanding gained means, together; we can offer a more comprehensive service to help with the complex problems patients may present with. We offer professional placements of varying lengths for registered health professionals, including those from an allied health background.

If you would like to be considered for a professional placement please email education@stgileshospice.com. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that everyone who registers will be able to have a placement with us.
