Christina and Michelle’s story

They liken themselves to Hinge and Bracket, but this volunteer double-act has been an absolute lynchpin to our lottery team during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Christina Jones and Michelle Dodd have both volunteered at St Giles Hospice for around eight years, finding their niche in handling all of the administration for our Summer and Christmas raffles – a vital source of income for the hospice.

When the hospice had to close to all but it’s essential workforce, Christina and Michelle turned to their kitchen tables to help with raffle processing from home.

The Summer and Christmas raffles contribute around £150,000 to St Giles every year and at a time when our shops had closed and our events were cancelled, this was one vital fundraising stream that could safely keep going.

Christina and Michelle said: “We’re both so happy that we could continue to volunteer, but we’ve missed the rest of the team, our friends at the hospice, the cakes and not least each other!”

Through their volunteering, Christina and Michelle have become best friends and say they’d like to thank St Giles for bringing them together.

A huge thank you to Christina and Michelle for their continued support. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
