“St Giles gave my mum as much love as I could have.”
In the summer of 2019, Vivian Khan was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. Her illness was a real shock to her and the whole family as she had only recently returned from a month-long family trip to Pakistan.
After a short stay in hospital, Vivian was transferred to St Giles for end-of-life care.
“It was the most stressful and upsetting time. Mum was transferred to hospital and after just two weeks we were told the difficult news that she was being transferred to St Giles for end-of-life care.” Said Logan.
Logan and his sister Rachel were later relieved that Vivian was receiving the level of care she needed at St Giles.
“St Giles were there for mum and us as a family. We saw the care mum was getting and it was world class. She really wanted to stay there.”
“The staff at St Giles gave mum as much love as my sister and I could have.
“You could turn up at any time of day and nobody would bother you. When mum woke up she knew that one of us would be there.
“When the weather was good we could take mum outside in her bed to seen the birds and the trees, which meant such a lot.”
Vivian remained at the hospice until she died.
“I would chop my right arm off to help St Giles! We’re so grateful to them. The staff really dedicate their lives to making you comfortable – both patient and their family.
“St Giles being awarded an ‘outstanding’ rating by the CQC is no surprise, if I’m honest – they deserve it without a shadow of a doubt and I cannot imagine how they could be rated as anything else. ‘Outstanding’ is the only word that fits.”
