Playing the part of Easter Bunny is not something our volunteer driver, Peter Beauchamp, thought he’d ever be doing for St Giles Hospice… but that’s just one example of the new roles he took on during the COVID-19 pandemic!
Pre-pandemic, Peter and his co-driver and volunteer, Simon Barnes, would spend Thursdays collecting patients from their homes in the St Giles minibus and taking them to the MS support group at our Sutton Coldfield site, or to our Day Hospice at Whittington.
When support group sessions were forced to stop due to COVID guidance, their patient transport trips were put on pause… but that didn’t mean that this duo would stop volunteering altogether!
Instead, they played a vital logistical role in keeping everything at the hospice running smoothly – from collecting PPE each week, to taking blood samples to the labs, delivering prescriptions and paperwork and doing medication runs. Plus, they even collected a van load of Easter eggs, donated to our team by a local retailer!
A huge thank you to Peter and Simon for their egg-cellent efforts over the last 15 months! We couldn’t do what we do without you.
