St Giles were really key in giving mum peace of mind, making her feel like she understood what was happening and helping her be as comfortable as she could throughout everything. It was of course really difficult, but we had a lot of really lovely people who helped us out and supported us.”
Julie Phillips, Katy and Hannah’s cherished mother, spent her final week’s being supported by St Giles.
The care provided to their mum moved Katy and Hannah, motivating them to undertake this remarkable feat to give back to the hospice that meant so much to them.
The duo’s wing walk is more than a personal endeavour; it stands as a heartfelt tribute to their mum and a challenge to raise vital funds for St Giles.
Katy and Hannah said: “We took on the Wing Walk Challenge at Rendcomb Airfield in memory of our mum – she was phenomenal. I think our mum would have been terrified for us to even suggest doing a wing walk, but she would also be very proud of us.
“Our mum loved fundraising herself – so to do something like this, especially for St Giles, really meant a lot to us.”
Encouraging others to take on similar challenges, Katy and Hannah reflected on the thrilling experience and the deep satisfaction that came from supporting a cause close to their hearts.
The girls said: “If you’re thinking of doing it, just do it! It’s so much fun and a once in a lifetime opportunity – it was terrifying in the moment, but just a fantastic feeling afterwards.
Katy and Hannah enjoyed the experience so much that they’re now planning their next fundraising adventure.
