Here’s how your support makes a difference
Elizabeth Rees-Gilbert took on the 22 mile ‘Channel’ swim in 2023 to thank St Giles Hospice for the care her Grandad received.
Elizabeth said: “Since my Grandad died, my family and I have supported St Giles by taking part in Solstice Walks, playing the lottery and volunteering. Hospices are there for people in difficult times and we must support them so they can be there for other families like mine.
“In 2023 the hospice celebrated their 40th anniversary and to mark this occasion I decided to take on the Swim ‘the Channel’ challenge. I set a fundraising target of £100 and reached that before I even got in the pool – the support I received was amazing!
“The challenge was both physically and mentally demanding, but I enjoyed getting out of the house and visiting the pool with the motivation of ticking off the lengths driving me to the finish. I’d recommend others to take part, do it for the challenge, do it for the cause and represent a great organisation! Swimming is a brilliant exercise, and everyone can get involved!”
