Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

For over 70 years, the Queen has been an inspiration to millions of people around the world. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family, as well as people across the country as we come together at this sad time.

Times of national grief such as these affect us all in different ways. If you need to talk, we’re here for you. Our advice and support line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 0300 330 9410.

As Britain begins a period of national mourning, we have been considering our Cycle Autumn event and whether it should be going ahead this Sunday (11th September).

During her historic reign, the Queen showed unwavering support and commitment to countless causes. As Patron to more than 600 charities, Her Majesty was truly passionate about the nation’s charitable spirit.

Many of our participants are cycling in memory of loved ones themselves. As such, it feels like the right course of action to continue the Queen’s incredible legacy and come together as a community at Cycle Autumn – remembering our devoted Queen, as well as loved ones we’ve lost over the years.

As a mark of respect, and before our cyclists embark on their route, we will be holding a 2 minute silence at 7.25am, to pause and reflect on the Queen’s faithful service. We will also have black ribbon available for those who wish to wear it on their cycle ride in honour of Her Majesty.

Whilst photos will be taken at Cycle Autumn, we have temporarily paused all posting across our social media channels, and won’t be sharing images during the day. Instead, we will share an album of photos with participants following the event.

We recognise that people will have different views as to whether Cycle Autumn should continue or not, and we also understand and respect that some participants may no longer wish to attend this year. Therefore, we will be honouring transfers to our Cycle Spring or Cycle Autumn event in 2023.

If you have any further queries about Cycle Autumn, or to transfer your place to 2023, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our fundraising team. Email fundraising@stgileshospice.com or call 01543 432538.

If you haven’t signed up and would like to join us, you can still sign up on the day for an entry fee of £40. Find out more here.

As a mark of respect for Her Majesty the Queen, and to honour the bank holiday, our charity shops will be closed on Monday 19th September. They will reopen as normal on Tuesday 20th September.
