We are delighted to announce that Andrew Harkness has been appointed as the new substantive Chief Executive Officer at St Giles Hospice.
He joined us at St Giles at the beginning of May 2022 as Interim Chief Executive Officer.
Andrew has worked for the public sector (NHS and Local Authority) for over 25 years, the majority of which has been in senior leadership and management roles. He has over seven years of board level experience and has provided senior leadership on numerous system and organisational programmes.
Robin Vickers, Chair, said: “We’re delighted we have been able to offer the substantive position of Chief Executive Officer to Andrew.
“Andrew’s experience and expertise will help us build on our successes as a hospice and support the delivery of our new and upcoming strategy in 2023 to further support our workforce, provide excellent palliative care and enable our communities to support each other in living the best life they can to the very end.
“Andrew has worked diligently and successfully since starting with us. I would like to thank Andrew for his hard work in the last few months and he will continue to have the full support of Trustees as he steps into the Chief Executive role on a permanent basis.”
Andrew Harkness said: “I joined St Giles Hospice as Interim Chief Executive at the beginning of May and I’d like to achieve a positive environment, putting patients and their families at the heart of everything we do.
“As we approach 2022/2023, I am committed to developing our future direction as an organisation with the introduction of a new strategy from April 2023.
“I’m looking forward to working with our exceptional staff and volunteers to continue to deliver outstanding care and want to take this opportunity to thank our valued supporters who help to raise vital funds to ensure we can care for local patients and their families.”
