Music can provide comfort, emotional support and create a calming atmosphere but it can also create environments that encourage expression and creativity.
Dementia Centre Music Engagement Education aims to bring about a paradigm shift that repositions music from an ‘every-now-and-then’ or weekly intervention provided by a visiting expert, to an everyday experience embedded in the culture of daily care.
The Dementia Centre was established by HammondCare in 1995 and exists to enhance the quality of life for people living with dementia through services and solutions that are proven in practice. www.dementiacentre.com
This 3 hour workshop led by Dementia Centre Consultant Dr Natalie Yates- Bolton will cover the following;
- music, emotion and the brain and the benefits of using individualised music
- practical considerations
- tailoring music engagement as an intervention around mood and behaviour
