A team of intrepid Tamworth solicitors have taken to the saddle to help raise funds and awareness for St Giles Hospice.

Five cyclists from Rutherfords LLP tackled the hospice’s 25 mile cycle ride on September 10th with some of the team on their bikes for the first time ever in an organised race.

Headed up by partner Steve Wengraf, the team was made up of Private Client Paralegal Sarah Hassall, Legal Executive Louise Tyler, Commercial Paralegal Lauren Henderson and Legal Secretary Emily Hawley.

Steve said the event, which saw more than 600 cyclists take to the roads of Staffordshire and Derbyshire, was great fun as well as helping to raise awareness of the hospice.

“It was a brilliant day and the team all enjoyed the ride in varying amounts, I think we were all delighted to see the finish,” he said.

“It was great to be part of the day and we are pleased to be supporting St Giles through the cycle ride as well as by being part of Make a Will Fortnight.”

During the fortnight, from October 2-13, Rutherfords along with other local solicitors, will donate their time and expertise for free to help clients make or update their will.

All clients have to do is make a suggested donation to St Giles Hospice of £100-£150 depending on the type of will being created.

One hundred per cent of the proceeds will be donated to St Giles Hospice which cares for local people and their families living with a potentially incurable illness. Care is offered at the hospice’s centres in Whittington, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall and in patients’ own homes across the region.

Abigail Mills, Legacy Manager at St Giles, said the team at Rutherfords had done a great job tackling the cycle ride.

“It’s wonderful to see the amazing support we get from businesses like Rutherfords and we are very, very grateful as we simply couldn’t do the job we do without their involvement,” she said.

“And the continued support of Make a Will week by local solicitors is a significant help in our work, as one in eight patients at the hospice were cared for through gifts in wills.”
