Jaxon Wright, age 7, took part in a sponsored 15-mile cycling challenge around Chasewater reservoir, near Cannock Chase.
The local 7-year-old supported St Giles following the care his mom, Steph, received from St Giles before her death in 2020, following a five-year battle with breast cancer.
Steph died on Jaxon’s first day of school. She left behind her five-year-old son, Jaxon, who had only ever known his mommy to be poorly, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer when he was just two months old.
To date, Jaxon has raised more than £1000 for St Giles. Jaxon’s dad, Aiden, said:
I decided not to set a fundraising target, as whatever we raise will make a difference and I’m already so, so proud of my little boy for doing it. Whatever we raise is just a bonus.
We’re both so grateful to all of the team at St Giles for everything they’ve done for us as a family – we want services like this to continue to be available for other families like ours. Having just learnt to ride his bike, this summer Jaxon decided to take on a 15-mile bike ride to raise money for the hospice that cared for his beloved mommy.”
St Giles Hospice provides specialist palliative and end of life care, free of charge for people living with terminal illnesses. We spend close to £10 million a year providing our specialist services. With just 18% of this funded by the Government, we rely heavily on donations and income generation from the local community.
