Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the spring of 2024, Nicky faced her journey with courage and grace. During her time at St Giles, she became deeply passionate about raising awareness of the crucial role hospices play in supporting individuals, and their loved ones, through some of the most challenging moments of life.
Nicky was moved by the care she received at St Giles. From expert symptom management to emotional support, the hospice team surrounded Nicky, and her loved ones, with compassion and understanding.
She said: “What struck me most was learning how much hospices rely on the local community for their support. Without donations, this incredible care simply wouldn’t be possible. Knowing that made me even more determined to share the difference they make.”
“The main priority at the moment is fundraising for these places because think about people who haven’t got families – they need to be peaceful and comfortable and that’s all you want in your last days.
“I’ve never thought about a legacy really, but I want to leave one to help St Giles. My family are going to carry it on as well and keep doing things to raise money. Every little bit helps to make a huge difference.”
Her loved ones remember Nicky not only for her strength and warmth, but also for her unwavering commitment to make a difference. Inspired by the care she received; she encouraged her family and friends to continue supporting St Giles after she died so others could experience the same vital end of life care.
Nicky’s story is a testament to the transformative power of hospice care and the lasting impact of those who champion its cause.
