Current volunteer roles

We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities including fundraising and administrative support, working as part of our reception team, in our shops and supporting patients in our daily activities or on our wards.

Some of the volunteer opportunities that we’re looking to fill as soon as possible are listed below. Alternatively you can book a place on one of our regular open sessions to find out more about volunteering at St Giles and other roles available.

Fundraising Events Team Volunteer

Location: Whittington

What does it involve? The Events Team within the Fundraising team are looking for someone to support them on a regular basis with many aspects of the event planning and delivery. This is a varied and exciting role within a busy environment with tasks ranging from pre event and post event administration such as thank you letters to supporting the events team on site. This role would be perfect for someone who has good organisational and communication skills along with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and use of email. 

Volunteering Hours: One full day weekly/fortnightly (to be discussed).

Complementary Therapy Volunteers

Location: Whittington

What does it involve? For several years St Giles Hospice have recruited volunteer therapists who have offered reflexology, massage, aromatherapy, Indian head massage, reiki and more recently, energy therapy and ‘M’ Technique. We are looking for new volunteers who are trained in at least one of these therapies (more than one is highly beneficial to our service) to give treatments to some of our patients and relatives.  

Volunteering Hours: We are looking for a weekly commitment of 3-4 hours every week – days can be discussed.

Collecting Box Volunteers

Location: Whittington

What does it involve? We are looking for volunteers who can support us with the management of our collecting boxes out in the community. These collecting boxes are a valuable part of a income generation and we need volunteers to help us install boxes into new locations, monitor existing boxes along with counting and banking the money collected.  

Volunteering Hours: Flexible – to be discussed.

Fundraising Events Helper

Location: Depends on location of Hospice event (base is Whittington/Walsall)

What does it involve? To provide practical support to our fundraising team at some of our key events such throughout the year such as Solstice Walk, Summer Fair and challenge events. This may include helping with registration, marshalling or simply cheering participants on! 

Volunteering Hours: Hours are dependent on what event that you are volunteering at and will be discussed with you by a member of the fundraising team.

Transport Volunteer

Location: Dependent on where you live and will be discussed with Transport Manager. Based is Whittington.

What does it involve? To provide patient transport for those attending Day Hospice, Lymphoedema Clinic and therapy appointments or other transport requests that come in from across the Hospice.

Volunteering Hours: We are looking to cover various sessions throughout the week either using your own vehicle or being part of the mini bus/mobile clinic teams.

Housekeeping Volunteer

Location: Whittington

What does it involve? To provide practical support to our Housekeeping and CH & Co teams to ensure the washing up area is clean, tidy and fit for purpose.

Volunteering Hours: We are trying to cover various sessions throughout the week in the morning, afternoon and evening.

Ward Helper Volunteer (Flexible and regular roles available)

Location: Whittington

What does it involve? This role is to provide practical support to the nursing staff on our in-patient unit. Tasks range from stocking linen cupboards to making refreshments for patients and relatives.

Volunteering Hours: We are trying to cover various sessions throughout the week on an ad-hoc basis. Would suit someone who is not looking for a regular role but would like to help occasionally. Session times are either approx. 9am-1pm or 3pm-6pm approx.
