St Giles Hospice celebrates triple shortlist at Beacon Awards 2025

A Staffordshire hospice has said it is thrilled to have been shortlisted in three categories at the Beacon Awards 2025, alongside two of its dedicated supporters.

St Giles Hospice has been shortlisted for Charity and Social Enterprise Award, whilst 93-year-old volunteer Joan Fairley and supporter Logan Khan have been nominated for Community Hero Award and Partnership Award respectively.

The winners will be announced at a celebration evening at the National Memorial Arboretum on Thursday 27 November.

Ashleigh Mills, Fundraising Development Manager  at St Giles Hospice, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted in three categories at the Beacon Awards. This recognition is a testament to the incredible dedication of our team, volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly to ensure we can continue providing outstanding end of life care for local people and their loved ones.

“To see Joan Fairley and Logan Khan also shortlisted is particularly special. Their commitment to St Giles has been truly inspirational, and we’re so proud that their exceptional contributions are being recognised. We’re very much looking forward to celebrating with them at the National Memorial Arboretum next week.”

The hospice has been recognised for its remarkable transformation during 2024-25, when it achieved a ÂŁ1 million deficit reduction in nine months whilst delivering care for 2,603 people across Staffordshire, North Birmingham and surrounding areas. The community raised ÂŁ8.27 million for the hospice during the year, including ÂŁ350,000 through an urgent appeal.

Joan Fairley has raised more than ÂŁ30,000 for St Giles over sixteen years of dedicated service, including ÂŁ10,000 through her legendary homemade jam enterprise. Her journey began with a promise to her late husband Norman, who told her whilst receiving care at the hospice: “it’s like paradise here, you will help them, won’t you?” In 2023, Joan was invited to Westminster Abbey for the Together at Christmas concert hosted by The Princess of Wales, one of just 1,600 people nationwide honoured for their community work.

Logan Khan, founder of The Boss Partnership accountancy firm, has been shortlisted for his support of the hospice’s TreeCycle initiative. He secured sponsorship for all 15 collection vans within two hours, eliminating operational costs and helping the 2024 scheme raise over ÂŁ100,000. Logan’s mother spent her final 12 weeks at St Giles in 2019, inspiring his ongoing commitment. He joined the hospice’s Board of Trustees in 2025.

The Beacon Awards received more than 120 nominations across 11 categories this year. The celebration evening takes place on Thursday 27 November at the National Memorial Arboretum.
